RFID Gate Access

RFID Vehicle Access Control with Windshield Tags

Windshield RFID tags open the gate for registered vehicles as they pull up — on their own, or as a second factor with the badge system you already have. Every entry and exit is logged with the vehicle, driver, gate and time.

Windshield Tags for Every Registered Vehicle

An adhesive UHF RFID tag on the windshield identifies the vehicle from 10 to 25 feet away, without the driver lowering the window.

  • Registered to a person: each tag is tied to an employee, contractor or fleet vehicle record.
  • Managed where you manage people: adding or disabling a user in your access-control system updates the vehicle tag list automatically.
  • Fleet registry: every vehicle with its tag, assigned driver, department, last-seen gate and status, searchable and exportable.
  • Visitors and contractors: issue and retire tags as people come and go.

How the Gate Works

Senitron reads the tag, checks it and signals your gate controller, in a fraction of a second.

  • Read: an outdoor fixed RFID reader and antenna at each lane read the windshield tag as the vehicle approaches.
  • Check at the edge: the reader holds an up-to-date allowed list, so the gate signal fires in under 50 ms and keeps working during internet outages.
  • Signal the gate: the reader triggers an input on your access-control panel, like a dry contact. With two-factor, the driver also badges in.
  • Log everything: tag, person, badge event, gate opened or denied and time are recorded in Senitron and synced back to your access-control audit trail.

Configurable Gate by Gate

Your security team chooses how each gate behaves, and can change it any time without a support ticket.

  • Two-factor: a valid windshield tag and a badge from the same person, within a set time window.
  • RFID-only: the tag alone opens the gate, for example after hours or in heavy rain.
  • Badge-only fallback: badges always work, so nobody is locked out if a tag is covered by snow or ice.
  • Time-of-day rules per gate, plus a real-time display of vehicles entering and leaving.
  • Also tracks fleets and loads: the same readers log trucks, trailers and tagged materials in and out. See RFID yard management.

Built for Outdoor Gates and Your Access Control

Gates use outdoor-rated Zebra FX9600 readers and IP67 antennas rated down to -40°F, angle-mounted on a pole or pedestal to stay clear of snow. Senitron works alongside your access-control system: two-way integration with Brivo (users in, gate audit out), and other panels through a standard input. Installation is done by your security integrator or any low-voltage installer, with Senitron setting up and supporting the system remotely. See RFID readers and antennas.

RFID Vehicle Access Control: Common Questions

What is RFID vehicle access control?

RFID vehicle access control uses a tag on each vehicle windshield and an RFID reader at the gate. When a registered vehicle approaches, the reader identifies it and signals the gate to open, alone or together with a badge, and every entry and exit is logged.

How far away can a windshield RFID tag be read?

Typically 10 to 25 feet at a gate lane. Read distance is tuned for each lane so only the vehicle at the gate is read, not the next lane.

Does it work with our existing badge access system?

Yes. Senitron adds the vehicle tag as an extra credential to the access control you already have. It integrates two-way with Brivo, and connects to other panels through a standard input on the door controller.

What happens if a tag cannot be read because of snow or ice?

Each gate keeps a badge-only fallback, so drivers can always badge in and nobody is locked out.

Will the gate still work if the internet goes down?

Yes. Each reader keeps a local copy of the allowed tags, so it keeps opening the gate during an outage and the log catches up when the connection returns.

What does RFID gate access cost?

Gate projects are quoted per lane: an outdoor reader and antenna for each lane, windshield tags for your vehicles, and setup of the integration with your access control. Every project includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.
