RFID for Greenhouses & Nurseries

RFID for Greenhouses & Plant Nurseries: Track Every Plant to the Truck

Know where every tagged plant is, from the bulb cooler to the trailer. Every pot is counted, every door it passes is logged, and anything that leaves without an order is flagged the moment it reaches the dock. Whether you already tag your plants for your retail customers or are starting fresh, Senitron puts RFID to work across your whole range.

Your Product Sheet, One Row per Item

The inventory screen groups every tag under its item, so you see what you have the way your buyers do: by item number and UPC, with the count read by RFID next to the photo.

The fields from your product sheets come along with each item, so the people picking and loading see the same facts your customers order from.

  • Pack size and finish: 8 per case, grower pot with 10 bulbs.
  • Availability and color mix: January to April, red.
  • Case details: dimensions, weight and Ti × Hi.
  • Care details: water, light and ethylene sensitivity.

See Which Room Each Plant Is In

Open an item and the floor plan shows how many of its pots are in each room. Here, 183 red tulips are still in Bulb Cooler B, while 108 are in Bay 1 and 89 in Bay 2. Each tag keeps its own serial (range, date code, lot and unit), when it was last seen, and the room it was seen in.

Every Door a Plant Passes Through Is Logged

A pair of antennas at each door tells Senitron which way a plant went, so it knows when a pot left the cooler, entered a bay, moved to finishing or reached staging. One overhead reader in each room keeps the count current. Every tag shows its current room on the map, with its full movement history underneath.

Every Load Tied to the Loader and the Trailer

When a load goes out, Senitron records who took it (their badge), which trailer it went on, and every plant and shipping cart on it. Open a load to see the full list.

When a customer says a case never arrived, you can show exactly what went on that trailer and when.

  • Badge and trailer on every load: no paperwork to fill in at the dock.
  • Carts tracked too: Danish carts and shipping trolleys are tagged and counted like plants, so you know which ones left and which came back.
  • Proof of shipment: export any load with its date, time and contents.

Plants That Leave Without an Order Are Flagged at Once

Each dock door has its own monitor screen. When a plant crosses the door without a picked order, its photo, item, lot and tag fill the screen so the dock lead can stop the load. The same check runs at the cooler door, so bulbs that come out before their date are caught too.

  • One screen per door: sized for a wall display.
  • Counts beside every alert: open, resolved and today’s events.
  • Nothing slips through: each alert stays on the list until someone resolves it.

Indoors, Outdoors and Across Every Site

  • Handheld RFID readers: count a whole bench, bay or outdoor growing block in minutes, and find any plant with the locator.
  • Autonomous drones: for large outdoor nurseries, drones fitted with RFID readers count rows of plants without anyone walking them.
  • Tag printing built in: print and encode RFID plant tags and labels from the dashboard, as single items or by lot.
  • Works with your ERP: pull items from your existing system, including Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Oracle and SAP, or run Senitron on its own.
  • Carts, tools and equipment: track them with RFID asset tracking software on the same system.

RFID for Greenhouses & Nurseries: Common Questions

How does RFID work in a greenhouse or plant nursery?

Each plant, tray or cart carries an RFID tag. Fixed readers at your doors and in each room read the tags as plants move, and handheld readers count benches and outdoor blocks. Senitron shows what you have, where it is, and every move it made, without anyone scanning barcodes.

Can I use the RFID tags my retail customers already require?

Yes. Senitron works with the RFID tags you already print for your retail customers, so the same tag that goes to the store also tracks the plant inside your range.

Do RFID plant tags hold up to water, soil and humidity?

Yes. Senitron helps you choose tags and stake labels made for wet, humid greenhouse conditions and outdoor growing areas, and supplies the printers to print and encode them.

How do I know which direction a plant went through a door?

Each door has a pair of antennas. Senitron sees which one read the tag first, so it records whether the plant went in or out, and moves it to the right room.

What happens when a plant is loaded without an order?

The dock door monitor shows the plant's photo, item, lot and tag the moment it crosses the door, so the dock lead can stop the load. The alert stays open until someone resolves it.

Can Senitron record who loaded each trailer?

Yes. Each load is recorded with the loader's badge, the trailer, and every plant and cart on it, so you can show exactly what shipped and when.

Does it work for outdoor nurseries?

Yes. Outdoor blocks are counted with handheld RFID readers, and large nurseries can use autonomous drones with RFID readers to count rows of plants.
